PLT is Effective, Adaptable, and Hands-On

Project Learning Tree uses trees and forests as windows on the world to increase students’ understanding of the environment and actions they can take to conserve it. Bring the fun while teaching about the environment and take a break from screen time and rote memorization with PLT.

PLT’s core curriculum materials are reviewed and updated periodically to meet the changing needs of educators and students—and to stay abreast of new developments in science, technology, and education.

Our materials and workshops have a transformative effect on both the individual teacher, as well as the student— and it all starts with our unique approach.

How PLT Works

Every Student Learns Outside

Research indicates that both structured and unstructured time outdoors can promote academic learning and improves emotional and physical well-being. Many PLT activities involve taking students outside for outdoor learning.

Brings Learning to Life

PLT activities are hands-on and investigation-based, making learning fun while also building skills and knowledge in engaged students.

Multi-Layered Curriculum Development

To ensure the effectiveness of its materials, PLT uses an extensive, multi-layered curriculum development process. We collaborate with natural resource professionals and conservation experts to strengthen and ensure the validity of all content.

Our Curriculum Development Process

Activity Development

PLT uses an extensive, multi-layered curriculum development process that incorporates research and review by educators and subject experts, including classroom teachers, curriculum specialists, natural resource professionals, and more.

Teacher Tested and Evaluated

Every new PLT activity is field tested by classroom and nonformal educators. Based on their feedback, activities are revised and often reviewed again by content experts and educators. Field testing helps PLT to ensure instructional effectiveness.

Continuous Improvement

PLT materials are continually evaluated and updated, allowing PLT to keep pace with the changing needs of educators. We greatly appreciate feedback from educators and collaborate with our PLT Network Coordinators to adapt materials regionally.

Award-Winning Environmental Education Materials

Since 1976, PLT has collaborated with committed educators, curriculum specialists, and technical experts to produce the highest quality environmental education materials possible.
